A chilly winter day in March, Strasbourg, France.
I wanted to capture what I feel is an awkward brightness that comes with a very clear (and quite cool) early spring day in Barolo. When life comes back to the vines, plants and grasses just before green has taken hold of everything, there's a yellow-orange hue for just a few days, generally accompanied by the smell of everything being reborn. On a cool Spring day with clear skies and a mild but chilly wind, it's just lovely.
The tiny village of Santa Maria, in the commune of La Morra. Cru Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto surround this special land.
Vineyard workers are finishing their last bit of pruning at this time of year (end of March, 2011), and bud break here in Barolo is but a few weeks away.

Driving back from Bordeaux early one Spring morning, we pulled off the road for a simple breakfast of coffee, jam, bread and fruit (€5) in a tiny town on the back roads going toward Aix, This HDR captures some of the flowers and the end-of-winter sky found in this tiny cemetery.
